I Wanted It Fixed

I wanted it fixed
The intricacies of this beautiful clockwork
Perpetual in motion and in mystery,
Until put under the scrutiny of its master.

I wanted it fixed
And thought, and hoped, that love and faith and fate could have it done,
Trusting it in the inexperienced hands
Of an apprentice who wanted everything for himself

I wanted it fixed– dsperately
And paid more than my due, more than I ought to offer,
And still hoped and prayed and yet–
